No One Knows by Ellison, J. T.

A husband goes missing one night and five years later is legally declared dead.  This is a fast paced thriller.  If you are looking for a book that is on the same lines as Girl on a Train, or Gone Girl, this book will be a great read for you.  It is one of those stories that you don’t want to stop listening to.  So if you are looking for a great thriller, pick this one up.

I thought I would do something a little different today and tell you what is on my radar for books to listen to that I think you will enjoy.

  • The Fireman by Joe Hill
I have started reading this one and do plan on listening to the narrator just to see how the he is good in this book.  I am hooked! This book is great!  I have also heard buzz that it will be made into a movie.  It definitely makes me want to forget all adult responsibilities.
  • The Wayward Pines series by Blake Crouch
Series order  1) Pines 2) Wayward 3) Last Town
This is a TV series which I did not know, so I will be going back and watching this show after I listen to the series.  So far, the narrator is amazing in this series. If you like a thriller with a little sci-fi twist you will want to check out the Book on CD.
  • Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
This book has been getting a lot of buzz and I am really excited to try it out.  It is next on my list after I finish The Fireman.
  • Not here yet, but on order is: Couple Next Door by Shari LapeƱa is also on my list.  How well do you know who lives next to you?  This one I think will be an edge of your seat suspense.
  • The View From the Cheap Seats Neil Gaiman is a phenomenal narrator and he narrates his own book.  A coworker has told me how much she is enjoying it, so I will be picking it up as well.

If you have not listened to Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey, it is an excellent series that you may really enjoy.  It is currently 5 books into the series with the 6th book coming out in December.  One that I have blogged about in the past Red Rising by Pierce Brown you should pick it up if you haven’t already.  It is a trilogy.  Another trilogy that you will find yourself sitting in the car wishing you had somewhere else to go, is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.  Game of Thrones also has one of the best narrators.  If you have not listened to this series it is another great one.  Let me know what you think.  Do you like seeing what is on my listening list?  What would you like to see?

Mother, Can you NOT?

by Kate Siegel

This book had me laughing so hard at times with a mother daughter duo that have a very interesting relationship.  The stories in this book made grateful that my mom is not CRAZY.  If your mother is anything like Kate Siegel’s mother, I am sorry in advance.  You probably have some interesting stories of your own, but have you ever considered writing a book about it?  There are some embarrassing moments for her, which left me picking up my jaw from the floor a couple times.  Other times I laughed to tears.  This book is narrated by the author and her mother, which makes it very captivating and fast moving.  Some of the stories I bet my dad would be glad he did not have to deal with (kind of embarrassing).  I don’t want to give anything away, but if you want a good laugh, or just want to have a new appreciation for your own mother check this audiobook out.

Girls Guide to Moving On

By Debbie Macomber
Narator Nancy Linari, Allyson Ryan

I have to admit I have always judged these books by their cover.  This title peaked my interest and thought why not give it a shot.  I was pleasantly surprised.  The narration of this book was great, using two different narrators for the different characters made it feel like you were actually listening to them.  The characters, Leanne and Nichole, have a lot of issues to work out to get to happiness.  This mother-in-law, daughter-in-law duo make a few guidelines to help them move on in life after both of them divorce their spouses.  I really did get involved in this story wanting to know how it was going to turn out.  Leanne and Nichole stay close through everything, and try to help each other move on being true companions.  This turned out to have a good ending.  It was rough in places because we all have those moments in life where we feel unloved and disregarded.  It helps you to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel and life truly will get better.  I really enjoyed this story and think I will look into more by this author.

Furiously Happy

By Jenny Lawson
Narrated by Jenny Lawson

This is a funny book on more than just depression, it includes anxiety, among other symptoms that most of us can relate too.  I know it seems there is not anything funny about depression;  but these things need to be talked about and it is good to stop hiding our pain, and let others know that we all deal with these things.  If you know anyone or you yourself are depressed, this book is a must.  This will help you have an understanding of what is going on when someone says they are depressed and how you can help or support them.  Not just telling someone that they need to “walk it off.”   We are not as alone as we think.  “When we share our struggles, we let others know it is okay to share theirs.”  Jenny Lawson rambles about everything from possums and her arguments with her husband, to her fears of finding a dead body, and how you only feel successful at life just once in a while.  This book, although about serious matters, will have you laughing out loud.

Narrated by Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore going AWOL on a cruise ship left her feeling like she “needed to reboot.”  She goes from wild child to doting mom, doing many different jobs and tackling all sorts of hobbies all while on the mission to save herself.  Living by the motto “You never know where the day is going to take you,” Drew takes you on the roller coaster that is her life.  I have really enjoyed this book, if you are a fan of Drew Barrymore, definitely check out this audio book.
